A Day in the Life was the 15th episode of Season 4 of Night Court, also the 72nd overall series episode. Written by Nat Mauldin, Teresa O'Neill, and Bob Stevens, and directed by Thomas Klein, the episode, which aired on NBC-TV, first aired on February 5, 1987. 

Synopsis

Harry must judge all his cases by midnight.

Storyline

In the first of several "day in the life" episodes, the court has to process an unusually large docket (200 cases) before midnight - in this episode, to head off a federal judge's general amnesty setting free all defendants not arraigned by then.

Plot Summary

This is the first of four "Day in the Life" episodes, in which Harry (Harry Anderson) must judge a huge number of cases before a predetermined deadline. In this instance, Harry wants to dispense justice to 200 defendants in order to beat a midnight "general amnesty" ordered by a retiring federal judge. Among those appearing before Harry is NBC programming chief Brandon Tartikoff, who pleads on behalf of a Nielsen family that doesn't want to go to jail before they get a chance to watch Misfits of Science!
