About Abby[]
Idealistic to a fault, Abby, daughter of late Harry Stone, has been assigned to the same Manhattan Municipal Court that her dad used to preside over some three decades earlier. Upon her arrival, Abby tries to inject some humor and compassion into the proceedings. This brings her into conflict with her ambitious prosecutor Olivia Moore (India de Beaufort) and her underachieving clerk Neil Valluri (Kapil Talwalkar).
When her defense attorney quits, Abby's in a bind, as she now needs a new public defender; she then becomes inspired to seek out Dan Fielding (John Larroquette), who is the only one of her father’s old friends still living in Manhattan. Because of her earnestness and persistence, she manages to convince a now retired Dan, who was working as a court summons server, and had also just taken the job of running the cafeteria newsstand, to resume his law career as the public defender.
