Dan's past is revealed when the parents he told everyone were dead, The Gilmores, come to see their successful "sonny boy".
Dan's extremely rustic parents, Daddy-Bob and Mucette Elmore, come to visit him in Manhattan from Louisiana, embarrassing him all night until he practically disowns them. John McIntire and Jeanette Nolan both guest star.
Much to the surprise of the Night Court staff, Dan Fielding's dirt farmer parents, whom he said were dead, all of a sudden arrive at the courthouse fresh from tiny Paris, Louisiana with the intent to surprise him. It quickly becomes obvious why Dan (John Larroquette) has tried to obliterate his parents' existence: Not only are they "poor white trash", but they're also Democrats! Cast as the elder Elmores (Dan began using his middle name "Fielding" as his surname in college) are real-life husband and wife character actors John McIntire and Jeanette Nolan.
