Gail Strickland (born May 18, 1947) is the actress who played Sheila Gardiner, the original public defender, in the pilot episode of Night Court. Gail was replaced as the public defender by Paula Kelly, who appeared as new public defender Liz Williams for the remainder of Season 1 of the series.
Career[]
In 1973, Strickland won the Drama Desk Award in the Most Promising Performer category for her work in the play "Status Quo Vadis".
Gail has made numerous notable film appearances which include such roles in The Drowning Pool (1975), Bound for Glory (1976), the made-for-TV film The Gathering (1977), One on One (1977), Norma Rae (1979), Three of Hearts (1993), and Quality Time (2008). She has also played many notable roles on various television series including Dark Shadows, The Bob Newhart Show, M*A*S*H, Lou Grant, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, where she appeared in the episode "Paradise".; Heartbeat, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, and First Monday.
