Synopsis[]
As everyone is in a financial crisis when the city can't pay its employees, so Harry decides to quit his job, as his elderly replacement dies in the courtroom, as then, the gang persuades Harry into returning to the bench. Part 2 and the conclusion of 2 part story arc.
Storyline[]
After quitting, Harry is hanging out at a pool hall across the street from the courthouse. The gang have to talk him into coming back, even as his replacement creates a stir by dying during session.
Plot Summary[]
In the conclusion of a two-part story, Harry (Harry Anderson) has quit his job as Night Court judge, frustrated and disgusted by a municipal budget cut that has resulted in panic, hostility and tragedy. The courtroom staffers find Harry in a seedy pool hall and try to persuade him to return. They mention that the son from the previous case had survived the shooting, (and learn that Harry had visited him in the hospital), but Harry is still not convinced to return to the bench. Dan declares Harry a coward for throwing his career away, over one bad ruling, and trying to hold himself to too high of a standard, when he's done so much more for others than any other judge would, with his fairness and compassion. Meanwhile, Harry's replacement, an elderly and humorless judge, (Kenneth Tobey) drops dead in mid-sentence!
Future Star Trek: The Next Generation regular Brent Spiner appears as the head of the Wheeler family, a collection of raucous rubes who may or may not be from West Viriginia.
